At least 11 individuals lost their lives, and 22 sustained various degrees of injuries when a truck loaded with beans and passengers traveling from Sokoto to Ibadan, Oyo State, was involved in an accident in the Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State on Friday.
The tragic incident occurred when the truck somersaulted due to the driver losing control of the vehicle in Giron Masa village.
According to SP Nafiu Abubakar, the spokesman for the Kebbi State Police Command, the accident took place in the early hours of Friday.

“On November 3, 2023, around 6 am, there was a motor vehicle accident along Koko – Yauri Road, involving a Volvo DAF truck with number plate KWA 230 SKK, driven by one Alhaji Sule ‘m,’ aged 40 years, of Gada LGA in Sokoto State.
“The truck, which was loaded with passengers and bags of beans, was en route from Sokoto to Ibadan, Oyo State.
Upon reaching Giron Masa village, Shanga LGA, the truck’s driver lost control, causing it to somersault. Consequently, 21 passengers sustained various degrees of injuries.
“In response to the report, a team of police officers from Shanga Division rushed to the scene and transported the victims to General Hospital Shanga for treatment, where a medical doctor confirmed 11 fatalities, while the remaining victims are undergoing treatment.
“Given the circumstances, the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Chris Aimionowane, prayed for the souls of the departed to rest in eternal peace.”

CP Chris Aimionowane urged transport unions and other road users to prioritize safety measures in their vehicles and exercise caution to prevent such incidents.
He advised adherence to speed limits, avoiding overloading, and reckless driving, and emphasized the importance of being vigilant while on the road.
