Niger delta leaders visit Wike, condemns impeachment efforts against Fubara

Leaders representing various ethnic nationalities in the Niger Delta region paid a solidarity visit to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to express their gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for appointing him to his cabinet.

The visit also served as an opportunity to congratulate Wike on his ministerial appointment.

Dr. Kingsley Kuku issued a statement on Saturday, highlighting that the 60-member delegation of prominent Niger Delta leaders was led by Prof A.W. Obianime, a former President of the Ijaw National Congress (INC).

Addressing the current political situation in Rivers State, the leaders emphasized the state’s significance to the South-South region and stressed the importance of preventing any crisis.

They drew a parallel between the importance of Lagos State to the South West and Rivers State to the Niger Delta, asserting that harm to one was harm to all.

The leaders voiced their condemnation of recent attempts to impeach the State Governor in Rivers State’s House of Assembly on grounds of ‘gross misconduct,’ labeling it unacceptable and detrimental to the entire Niger Delta.

The statement called upon Nyesom Wike, a prominent political figure in Rivers, to use his influence to mediate and promote peace, as many members of both the executive and legislative branches have political affiliations with him.
