Obum Akunyili, son of the late Prof. Dora Akunyili, former Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), expressed his belief that his late father, Chike, could have survived if prompt medical intervention had been provided after being attacked.
He criticized the bystanders, including the driver and security personnel, who resorted to capturing videos at the scene rather than rushing for immediate medical care.

These remarks were made during the second public hearing of the Anambra State Truth, Justice, and Peace Commission in Awka.
The commission, established by Anambra State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo in June 2022, aims to investigate the violent unrest in the state and the South East.
Chike Akunyili was tragically murdered by unidentified gunmen on September 29, 2021, while returning to Enugu from an event in Onitsha, Anambra State, where his late wife received a posthumous award.
Obum expressed regret that his late father and the driver bled to death, highlighting the lack of any significant effort to transport them to a hospital where they could have had a chance of survival.
According to Obum, his late father would have had a 10% chance of surviving the gunshot wound to his head if immediate medical attention had been provided.
He emphasized the importance of offering aid to individuals in distress rather than capturing videos of such situations.
