Dr. Tony Ojukwu, the Executive Secretary of the NHRC, condemned the attack, characterizing it as a blatant violation of human rights and an affront to democratic principles and the rule of law.

In an official statement released on Thursday, Ojukwu stressed that the assault on Mr. Joe Ajaero, a prominent labor leader, represents impunity and a direct assault on individuals’ fundamental rights to associate and freely express their views and opinions, which are fundamental to a democratic society.

The NHRC called on the relevant authorities to thoroughly investigate the incident, ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice, and take decisive measures to prevent the recurrence and tolerance of such acts of brutality.
