A woman from North Dakota has been charged with the murder of her boyfriend, Steven Edward Riley Jr., shortly after he inherited $30 million and revealed his intention to end their relationship.
Ina Thea Kenoyer, aged 47, is facing an AA felony murder charge in this complex and tragic case.
The incident unfolded when Riley, aged 51, met with his lawyer on September 3 to collect his substantial inheritance. Witnesses later reported that he fell ill after this meeting.

However, it wasn’t until September 4 that Kenoyer, his girlfriend, finally called 911. When paramedics arrived, they found Riley unresponsive in his Minot home. Unfortunately, he passed away at the hospital on September 5, 2023.
An autopsy confirmed that Riley had been fatally poisoned, with evidence suggesting that he had ingested antifreeze.
Investigators believe that Kenoyer was responsible for feeding him this toxic substance.
In the days leading up to her arrest, Kenoyer proclaimed her innocence on Facebook, alleging that Riley had taken his own life.
She mentioned plans to share the inheritance, estimated to be around $30 million, with Riley’s son, arguing that she was entitled to it as his common-law wife.
However, it’s worth noting that North Dakota does not legally recognize such relationships.
Investigators suspect that Kenoyer poisoned Riley to secure the substantial inheritance after he had expressed his intention to end their relationship following his windfall.
Riley’s son expressed his grief on Facebook, writing, “Hope she gets what she deserves for taking you from this world.”

In this disturbing case, Kenoyer faces the most severe murder charge in North Dakota and is being held without bond at the Ward County Detention Center.
Court records show that she is representing herself in the legal proceedings.
