The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has made it clear that he will not yield ground in the ongoing power struggle with the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara.
This clash between the two political heavyweights stems from a rift that emerged after Fubara’s falling out with Wike, who previously held the gubernatorial office.
The Rivers State House of Assembly has initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara, a move spearheaded by the Assembly’s Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, who is a staunch ally of Minister Wike.

The political landscape has further heated up with the suspension of the Majority Leader of the House, Ehie Edison, who is known to be loyal to Governor Fubara.
Minister Wike, speaking following a meeting of governors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the party’s National Working Committee in Abuja, remained resolute in his stance, declaring that he would persevere in this fight, regardless of the consequences.
He stated, “You know I will not agree. If heaven will come down, let heaven come down so that everybody will be at rest.
Anybody who knows me knows too well: what I’ll never take is a threat. You know I will not agree. If heaven will come down, let heaven come down so that everybody will be at rest. Let’s do things right.”

Interestingly, these developments are unfolding despite reports suggesting that President Bola Tinubu has intervened to mediate and resolve the crisis.
The planned impeachment of Governor Fubara has caused significant unrest in the state, with supporters of both political figures taking to the streets in Port-Harcourt, the state’s capital, to express their dissent.
