The Nigerian Senate has given its nod of approval to the appointment of Shaakaa Chira from Taraba State as the Auditor General for the Federation.
This endorsement follows Chira’s recent screening by the Upper Chamber on Wednesday.
The appointment of Shaakaa Chira as the substantive Auditor-General of the Federation was originally sanctioned by President Bola Tinubu on October 20.

This decision had been made based on the recommendations of the Federal Civil Service Commission.
In addition to Chira’s appointment, the Senate also gave its consent to the appointment of seven other nominees selected by President Tinubu to serve as Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs).
The approved RECs include Etekamba Umoren for Akwaibom, Mister Isha Ehimeakne from Edo, Barrister Oluwatoyin Babalola for Ekiti, Mister Abubakar Ahmed for Gombe, Shehu Wahab representing Kwara, Aminu Idris from Nasarawa, and Mohammed Abubakar Sadiq for Niger.

However, three of the nominated individuals were not present for the screening process.
It is worth noting that a group known as “Worried Nigerian Citizens” had expressed opposition to Shaakaa Chira’s appointment as the substantive Auditor-General of the Federation.
The group raised concerns regarding Chira’s qualifications and experience for the role.
