The Nigerian House of Representatives has taken steps to investigate the funds allocated for the postponed 2023 population and housing census by the National Population Commission (NPC).
This decision was reached during a session held on Wednesday after Honourable Dominic Okafor brought attention to the significant sum of 200 billion naira that has been spent thus far on preparations for the census.

However, there was a divergence of opinions among lawmakers regarding whether it is feasible to conduct the census this year, primarily due to concerns related to the prevailing security challenges in the country.
In a related development, President Muhammadu Buhari had previously granted approval to postpone the 2023 Population and Housing Census, which was initially slated for May 3 to 7, to an unspecified date to be determined by the incoming administration.

The decision to indefinitely delay the population and housing census was made by former President Muhammadu Buhari in April after discussions with members of the Federal Executive Council, the Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Nasir Isa-Kwarra, and their team.
