Afro Nation cancels concert in December

The organizers of Afro Nation, recognized as the world’s largest Afrobeats festival, have decided to cancel their much-anticipated concert in Nigeria.

Afro Nation, an annual event that celebrates Africans in the diaspora, has gained a reputation as one of the globe’s most prominent music festivals.

The Afro Nation festival initially made its debut four years ago in Portugal, and it had generated significant anticipation when the organizers announced their first-ever concert in Nigeria, scheduled for December 19 and 20, at the Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos State.

However, in a recent statement issued by Smade, one of the co-founders of Afro Nation, the organizers have regretfully announced the cancellation of the festival.

The statement expressed, “Unfortunately, the Afro Nation Nigeria festival in Lagos will now not be taking place.

As event organizers, we hold ourselves to extremely high standards, and it has become clear to us that it is currently not possible to deliver a show that is of the quality that Nigeria deserves in December 2023.”

The statement continued, “We have put on incredible shows in Portugal, Ghana, Puerto Rico, Miami, and Detroit, but Nigeria holds a special place in our hearts, so we are heartbroken not to be able to celebrate with you this year.”
