President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called upon the officers and personnel of the Nigerian police to refrain from corruption and high-handedness in order to regain the trust and confidence of the Nigerian people.
He made this statement during the Conference and Retreat for Commissioners of Police and higher-ranking officers held in Owerri, Imo State.
The President emphasized the significance of professional ethics and integrity and urged the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and his officers to set the highest standards of conduct and serve as role models.

He highlighted the importance of fairness, transparency, and accountability in winning the trust and confidence of the Nigerian people and urged the police force to work together to eliminate corruption and misconduct within its ranks.
President Tinubu’s remarks were conveyed by the Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, who represented him at the event.
The President also commended the dedication, commitment, and unwavering service of the leaders within the Nigerian Police Force and acknowledged the numerous challenges they face in maintaining law and order, ranging from organized crime and terrorism to cyber threats and communal conflicts.

He called for the adoption of cutting-edge technologies to enhance policing methods, stressing the importance of innovation and the use of digital tools for crime prevention, intelligence gathering, and complex case investigations.
The President also highlighted the significance of community engagement in building trust, fostering positive relationships, and actively involving local communities in efforts to combat crime.
Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, addressing the participants, outlined the focus of his administration, which includes improving the capability of officers, standardizing service delivery, embracing transparency and accountability, upholding citizens’ rights, and attending to the welfare of officers.

He emphasized the importance of good attitudinal and professional conduct of police officers and a renewed emphasis on psychological and attitudinal training for new recruits.
Imo State Governor Uzodinma stressed the need to equip police personnel with high-technology-driven amphibious skills for air and marine policing to effectively combat modern-day threats such as crude oil theft, cybercrime, and banditry.
