Lionel Messi clinched his eighth Ballon d’Or of his illustrious career.
The former Barcelona star, who led Argentina to World Cup victory in Qatar with seven goals and the title of the tournament’s best player, triumphed over Manchester City’s Erling Haaland and PSG’s Kylian Mbappe for the prestigious award.
The award ceremony occurred at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, France, on Monday, October 30.
During his acceptance speech, Messi expressed gratitude to his Argentine teammates and extended congratulations to the other nominees.

Over the past 15 years, this prestigious award has been predominantly claimed by Messi and his longtime rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, who together have amassed 12 victories.
Only two other players, Luka Modric in 2018 and Karim Benzema in the previous year, have received the Ballon d’Or since Ronaldo secured his first win in 2008.
