Reps invites Naira Marley to speak over Mohbad’s royalties

The House of Representatives has taken a significant step in securing the musical rights of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad, by summoning the controversial singer Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley.

The House Committee on Justice, Youth, and Legislative Compliance extended an invitation to Mohbad’s manager, Jiggy Adeoye, scheduling the appearance for October 31.

Mohbad, a former artist signed to Naira Marley’s record label, tragically passed away on September 12, 2023, under controversial circumstances.

In response to his untimely death, the Lagos State Government initiated a coroner’s inquest to investigate the circumstances surrounding the 27-year-old singer’s demise.

This decision by the House of Representatives comes following a motion presented by Babajimi Benson, the legislator representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Lagos State, on Thursday.

Benson highlighted the urgent need to review the legal framework governing the entertainment industry to protect artists’ copyrights and ensure fair distribution of royalties.
