Runsewe encourages youth to pursue golf careers

The President of the Nigeria Golf Federation, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, has encouraged young individuals to seize the opportunity provided by the Awa Ibraheem Junior Open Golf Championship to excel in both sports and education.

He commended Dr. Awa Ibraheem’s visionary efforts to nurture the future of Nigerian children through golf.

Runsewe lauded the competition, held at the Ikeja Golf Club in Lagos during the 10th presentation ceremony, and coinciding with Dr. Ibraheem’s 70th birthday, as a nurturing environment for young participants.

He emphasized that Awa Ibraheem is a non-partisan Nigerian who recognizes the need to invest in the future of the country.

Runsewe emphasized the importance of investing in children, acknowledging that the nation’s future leaders, including presidents, senators, representatives, and ministers, are among the young participants.

Runsewe shared an anecdote from his visit to New York, where he aimed to bring Tiger Woods to Nigeria.

During this visit, he observed Tiger Woods engaging in activities similar to those promoted by Awa Ibraheem in Nigeria.

Runsewe praised Awa Ibraheem for dedicating 11 years to celebrate his birthday by positively impacting the lives of young golfers and revitalizing golf in the country.

The event featured the awarding of prizes and honors to winners and outstanding individuals. Moreover, scholarships of N300,000, N200,000, and N150,000 were announced for the first, second, and third-place winners, respectively.
