11-man gang specialized in generator thefts arrested by Bauchi police

In an operation conducted by the Bauchi State Police Command, six suspects believed to be involved in a series of thefts targeting industrial power generators in the Katagum Local Government Area’s Azare town were apprehended.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Muhammad, revealed this information during a press briefing in Azare on Tuesday, October 24, 2023.

The suspects are accused of committing thefts at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) and the Cold Room near the NTA station in Azare.

The arrested individuals include Adamu Ibrahim, Ibrahim Adamu, Musa Aliyu (also known as Manager), Umar, Alh Sani, Sani Adamu, Rilwanu Saidu, Victor Moses, Isaac Success, Adamu Ahmad, and Destiny Ihekwoabah, who was identified as the receiver of stolen generators.

Several Mikano generators were recovered from the suspects.

During the investigation, Adamu Ibrahim disclosed that he was introduced to the gang through Umar Abdullahi of Azare town and participated in two operations, profiting from the crimes.

Ibrahim Adamu confirmed this account, stating he benefitted from the proceeds of the thefts.

Musa Aliyu, also known as Manager, who had been residing in Mopol Base Dutse, Jigawa State, confessed to his first operation with the gang along the Azare-Giade road in 2022.

In 2023, he participated in two other separate operations, stealing generators from the Cold Room medicine store and the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) Azare Study Center.

Sani Adamu, aged 22, confessed to participating in two operations in Azare and profiting from the proceeds.

Adamu Ahmad, aged 33, who had a history of criminal activities, also confessed to engaging in various criminal operations and being involved in the vandalization of a transformer oil.

Kabiru Haruna, aged 35, participated in two operations and profited significantly from the crimes.

Victor and Isaac admitted to participating in the operations that led to the death of a security guard during the National Open University’s theft.

Investigations are ongoing, and efforts are being made to apprehend other accomplices who remain at large. The suspects will face prosecution once the investigation is complete.
