Oluchukwu Nwosu, a woman in Anambra State, has been apprehended for reportedly selling her three-month-old grandchild for N50,000.
Chidinma Ikeanyionwu, the media aide to the state Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, revealed this in a press statement on Sunday, October 22, 2023.
According to the report, the baby was rescued following a complaint from the child’s mother, Ijeoma Nwosu.
Ijeoma reported that her mother forcefully sold her baby soon after birth and had refused to disclose the child’s whereabouts.

The Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare in Anambra State took immediate action upon receiving the report, leading to the apprehension of the individuals involved.
Hon. Obinabo expressed her disappointment that despite the state government’s efforts to eradicate illegal adoption, some people continue to engage in such activities, thus undermining those efforts.
She issued a stern warning that anyone involved in unlawful adoption would face legal consequences.
This incident also revealed further details, as Ijeoma Nwosu claimed that this was the third time her mother, Oluchukwu Nwosu, had been involved in such actions.
The statement further disclosed that the child was underweight and unwell due to being fed soybean powder instead of proper baby food by the buyer, Evelyn Egwuatu.
All those involved in the incident have been located and turned over to the police for further questioning and investigation.
