Seun Kuti, the Grammy-nominated afrobeat artist, recently disclosed in an interview that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was his political mentor.
He described his relationship with Tinubu as “robust” and emphasized the influence Tinubu had on him during his formative years.
Kuti credited Tinubu as a significant political figure who, alongside others such as Wole Soyinka and Beko Ransome-Kuti, fought for democracy in Nigeria during the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) era.

Kuti clarified that his connection with Tinubu is personal, referring to him as an “uncle” and a mentor.
He cited Tinubu’s involvement in democratic struggles and the exile period as factors that influenced his political views.
Although Kuti performed at rallies during Tinubu’s first term as Governor of Lagos State, he emphasized that he doesn’t maintain a specific political affiliation with Tinubu and that their relationship revolves around national issues.
