The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, has unveiled plans to develop cost-effective housing designs and facilitate the construction of high-quality, affordable housing options to address the housing requirements of 80 percent of low- and medium-income earners in Nigeria.

During a meeting with the leadership of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, headed by President Shonubi Olayemi, Minister Dangiwa emphasized his commitment to prioritizing affordable housing.

He expressed the need to cater to the housing needs of the majority of Nigeria’s population, particularly those falling within the no-income, low to medium earners category.

The minister highlighted the importance of providing these hardworking citizens with decent, well-planned homes and communities that reflect the principles of inclusivity and fairness.

To achieve this, he stressed the necessity for affordable housing design concepts based on efficient bills of quantities.

Minister Dangiwa mentioned the establishment of an affordable housing design committee within his first week in office.

This committee’s primary task is to develop more efficient design alternatives tailored to the income profiles of Nigerians in the specified income bracket.

He praised the dedication and efforts of professionals within the ministry, emphasizing the importance of collecting feedback before unveiling these design concepts to the public.

The ultimate goal is to introduce the most efficient, practical, and sustainable affordable housing designs to help fulfill the ministry’s mandate.
