US and Israeli embassies in Argentina evacuated due to bomb threats

On October 18, the embassies of Israel and the United States in Argentina received bomb threats.

The Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires, located near the presidency, was evacuated with a significant police presence on the scene.

Police sources, speaking anonymously, confirmed that the embassy had received a threat via email.

Simultaneously, a threat was also directed at the U.S. embassy in the upscale Palermo suburb, where embassy employees were seen gathered outside until police allowed them to return.

Unfortunately, this community has a history of enduring attacks, including the 1994 bombing of a Jewish center that claimed 85 lives and injured 300.

This attack occurred just two years after a bombing at the Israeli embassy that killed 29 people and injured 200.

In recent times, Argentina has been involved in evacuating around 1,500 of its citizens from Israel following a deadly attack by Hamas militants on October 7, resulting in approximately 1,400 casualties, primarily civilians.

In response, Israel launched an offensive in Gaza, leading to the deaths of 3,478 people, predominantly civilians, as reported by the Hamas-led health ministry.
