Kwara state offers subsidized maize to poultry and fish farmers

In a bid to support the poultry and fishery (feed mill) sectors, the Kwara State Government has initiated the distribution of maize at a highly subsidized rate, offering it at 44.5% of the market value.

A joint statement by Dr. Saudat-Salah Abdulbaqi and Binta-Abubakar Mora on behalf of the Palliative Committee outlined the government’s decision to sell 50kg bags of maize at just N8,000, significantly lower than the regular market price of N18,000 for the same quantity.

This initiative aims to alleviate the financial burdens faced by farmers in the poultry and fishery sectors who require maize for feed production.

The Kwara State Palliative Committee, led by former Commissioner of Police Ebunoluwarotimi Adelesi, is coordinating the distribution to ensure that stakeholders in these sectors benefit from the reduced prices.

The palliative committee previously conducted a meeting with the All Farmers Association of Nigeria, the Poultry Farmers Association, and other key stakeholders to establish the distribution modalities.

This effort follows the Kwara State Government’s recent purchase of 40,000 bags of maize from the national strategic grain reserve via the Central Bank of Nigeria.
