IBEDC expresses concern over N67bn debt from Ogun customers

Kingsley Achife, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), revealed on Monday that residential consumers in Ogun State owed the company more than N67 billion.

He emphasized the importance of customers settling their debts to avoid disconnection.

During a community engagement event held at the IBEDC headquarters in Leme, Abeokuta, for customers within the Abeokuta metropolis and Sagamu, Achife, represented by Mrs. Busolami Tunwase, the Lead Media Relations Officer of IBEDC, addressed the audience.

He used the occasion to stress the need for improved customer-company relationships and urged customers to pay their outstanding bills, which had become a growing concern for the company.

Achife stated, “We have called this meeting to seek better working relationships with our customers, but we cannot achieve this if they are not paying for the services being rendered.

As we speak, customers in Ogun State owe us over N67 billion, which is a substantial amount.

We all know that no business can survive with suffocating debt like this. Therefore, we are appealing to them to settle their bills before we initiate disconnections.”

He also raised the issue of energy theft, where customers were either not paying for the electricity they used or not paying in full for the energy consumed.

Addressing this issue and improving payment compliance were key concerns for the IBEDC.
