Woman publicly flogged for alleged plantain theft in Akwa Ibom

A woman named Obot Udo Ekpo was subjected to corporal punishment by local youth leaders who accused her of stealing three bunches of plantains.

The incident unfolded on the morning of October 16, 2023.

Allegedly, Ekpo was caught red-handed with the stolen plantains and intended to sell them at the Urua Udo Inyang market, a popular weekly market in the region.

Unfortunately for her, she was apprehended before reaching the market.

Hailing from Ikot Akpandem in Okon Eket, the suspect has been handed over to the Uqua Division of the local police by Akparawa Uyai Udo Jacob, the village Youth President.

The police will conduct an investigation and initiate any necessary legal proceedings regarding the alleged theft.
