Woman arrested in Rivers for pouring hot water on husband over N15,000

In a recent incident in Agbonchia community, Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, a woman, identified as Godslove Olakada, was arrested by the Rivers State Police Command for allegedly pouring scalding hot water on her husband, Olakada Ejire, following a domestic altercation.

The arrest occurred on Saturday, October 14, 2023, shortly after the incident.

The victim, Olakada Ejire, was swiftly transported to a hospital in Aleto Eleme, where he is currently undergoing medical treatment.

An eyewitness reported that the dispute between the couple began when Godslove accused her husband of withholding N15,000 that should have been shared among them and their children as part of the community dividends, triggering a heated argument.

In a fit of anger, the mother of two scalded her husband’s face with hot water and attempted to flee the scene.

She also tried to abscond with her husband’s Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card, but vigilant youths in the area intervened and handed her over to the police.

This incident comes shortly after another case in which a woman, Hope Nwala, poured hot groundnut oil on her husband while he was asleep due to a disagreement in Okehi, Etche Local Government Area of the state.

Rivers State Police Command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the arrest and issued a statement on the matter on Monday, October 16.

She mentioned that the cause of the incident was rooted in domestic family issues and assured the public that an investigation has been initiated to thoroughly examine the situation.

Iringe-Koko also urged the public to promptly report any distressing situations to the police.
