PDP urges INEC to restore its image through off-cycle elections

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed its views on the governorship elections scheduled for November 11 in Imo, Bayelsa, and Kogi states, characterizing them as an opportunity for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to mend its allegedly tarnished reputation.

Debo Ologunagba, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, made these remarks in Abuja on Sunday, additionally calling for the reassignment of Prof. Sylvia Agu, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Imo State.

While recognizing INEC’s commitment to using the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System and the Result Viewing portal for result transmission, Ologunagba emphasized that the PDP would hold INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, personally responsible for his statements.

He stated, “The INEC Chairman should understand that the integrity of an electoral process is directly linked to the confidence of the voters.

“These elections provide INEC with a unique opportunity to repair its reputation, which has suffered as a result of the 2023 elections.”

Regarding the call for the reassignment of the Imo REC, Ologunagba noted, “The PDP, once again, calls for the immediate removal of the openly compromised INEC REC in Imo State, Prof. Sylvia Agu.

“Prof. Sylvia Agu has familial ties to a national officer of the APC, and there are allegations that she is being further compromised to aid the APC in rigging the November 11 governorship election in Imo State.”
