Navy seizes N200m worth of cannabis in Lagos waters

Operatives from the Nigerian Navy, stationed at NNS BEECROFT, have successfully intercepted a substantial shipment of cannabis sativa within the waters of Lagos.

The illicit drug was being smuggled into Nigeria via the nation’s intricate waterways by suspected traffickers.

The estimated street value of the seized narcotics exceeds N200 million, with approximately 65 sacks of contraband recovered from two distinct locations in Lagos.

The navy attributed its success in tracking and seizing the illegal cargo to the utilization of Falcon Eye, a cutting-edge maritime awareness domain facility technology.

Speaking to the press in Lagos, Commodore Kolawale Oguntuga, the Commander of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT, disclosed that the cannabis interception occurred in the Lekki and Badagry areas.

According to him, the smugglers hastily fled upon sighting naval gunboats patrolling the region.

However, Commander Oguntuga issued a stern warning to the perpetrators, cautioning them to halt their activities or face the full force of the law.

He emphasized that the Nigerian Navy, equipped with Falcon Eye technology, remains vigilant in monitoring and safeguarding the nation’s waters.

Their constant patrols are aimed at deterring criminal activities and ensuring the safety of maritime trade.

The commander stressed the navy’s responsibility to safeguard the nation’s integrity, citing the recent seizure of the substantial drug shipment as a testament to their commitment to this mission.
