In a devastating incident on Tuesday, October 3rd, a bus careened off a bridge connecting the Mestre and Marghera districts of Venice, resulting in a catastrophic loss of life.
According to a spokesperson from the city hall, at least 21 individuals, including two children, have lost their lives in the tragedy.
The bus subsequently caught fire after the plunge, making the rescue operation a race against time for firefighters and first responders.
Mayor Luigi Brugnaro expressed his sorrow on social media, describing the scene as “apocalyptic” and underscoring the immense magnitude of the tragedy.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni extended her deepest condolences, stating that she was closely monitoring the situation and in contact with Mayor Luigi Brugnaro and Transport Minister Matteo Salvini to stay updated on the incident.
Mayor Brugnaro later revealed in an interview with Italian state television channel Rai News24 that additional individuals were still trapped amid the wreckage. As the rescue operation continues, the death toll is anticipated to rise.
