On Wednesday, the Russian armed forces reported that they successfully repelled dozens of Ukrainian drones during nighttime operations in regions close to the border.
British analysts have also brought to light an incident in which Moscow’s forces allegedly shot down one of their own combat jets last month.
According to the Defence Ministry in Moscow, air defense forces intercepted a total of 31 unmanned aerial vehicles over the Belgorod, Bryansk, and Kursk regions.
While the drones were thwarted, Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov mentioned the damage to an administrative building during these operations.
It’s important to note that Russia initiated a full-scale invasion of Ukraine over 19 months ago.
In recent times, there has been an uptick in attacks on Russian territory, although Moscow tends to downplay their impact.
Nevertheless, it’s crucial to emphasize that the scale of damage and the number of casualties from these incidents do not compare to the consequences of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

British analysts have raised concerns about Russian air defenses accidentally shooting down a Russian fighter jet near the occupied town of Tokmak in southern Ukraine.
According to the British Ministry of Defence’s daily update, “On Sept. 28, Russian air defense forces mistakenly shot down one of their own Su-35S FLANKER M multi-role combat jets over Tokmak, approximately 20km behind the current front line.”
While Russia has reportedly lost approximately 90 fixed-wing aircraft since the commencement of the invasion, this incident marks only the fifth loss of a Su-35S, considered one of Russia’s most advanced combat jets.
The specific location of Tokmak is significant due to its heavy fortifications and its role as a host for Russian headquarters overseeing a fiercely contested sector of the front line.
As a result, such headquarters are typically equipped with dedicated short and medium-range air defense systems, likely maintained at a high state of readiness in response to Ukraine’s continued effective deep strikes against such targets.
