Delta State Police Command has apprehended three teenage suspects believed to be involved in armed robbery activities, following a raid on their base, a ‘Shawarma’ joint, situated at the popular Enerhen Junction.

The operation resulted in the capture of two male gang members, Idigbe Osreis (19) and Idigbe Perfect (16), who were found at their hideouts.

According to reports, an undercover police operative present in the vicinity spotted one of the suspects, Gift Peace, and subsequently trailed him to the location where he was apprehended.

On September 29, 2023, the Divisional Police Officer ‘B’ Division, Warri, SP Bolarinwa Alabi, received a distress call regarding an armed robbery incident at Giwamu Junction in Warri. He led his team to the scene, where a 14-year-old suspect was arrested at a Suya spot.

During questioning, the teenager reportedly admitted to being a member of an armed robbery gang that has been causing terror in Warri and its surroundings.

He claimed to have been involved in robberies since the age of seven and provided information about other gang members as well as the locations of their hideouts.

Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, revealed that upon spotting the police operatives, the gang members opened fire from their unregistered tricycle.

In response, the police engaged the armed gang, resulting in one of the suspects, identified as the gang leader, sustaining gunshot injuries. He was subsequently taken to the hospital and confirmed dead.

The police recovered several items from the suspects, including the gang’s operational tricycle, a locally made cut-to-size single barrel gun with expended cartridges, and three live cartridges.

Ongoing efforts are being made to apprehend the remaining gang members and recover additional weapons used in their criminal activities.
