Newcastle defeat Manchester City in recent clash

Manchester City faced an unexpected exit from the League Cup after suffering a 1-0 defeat against Newcastle on Wednesday.

The decisive goal was netted by Alexander Isak in the 50th minute at St. James’ Park, propelling last season’s finalists into the tournament’s last 16.

Despite clinching the treble of the Champions League, Premier League, and FA Cup in the previous season, Manchester City’s hopes of achieving an unprecedented quadruple were dashed.

City’s manager, Pep Guardiola, opted to make eight changes from the lineup that secured a 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

However, the team seemed to lack the sharpness provided by Erling Haaland, who remained on the bench throughout the entire 90 minutes.

On the other side, Newcastle’s manager, Eddie Howe, also made several alterations to his squad following their 8-0 victory over Sheffield United in the previous match.

It wasn’t until the second half when Howe introduced Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes that the hosts gained control of the game.

The critical moment arrived when Isak calmly slotted the ball into the net at the far post after a skillful move from Joelinton had opened up Manchester City’s defense.

Meanwhile, Chelsea managed to avoid further crisis at Stamford Bridge by defeating Brighton 1-0, with Nicolas Jackson scoring the decisive goal. Jackson’s clinical finish in the 50th minute, assisted by Cole Palmer, helped Chelsea secure a much-needed victory.
