Atiku’s aide accuses APC of deceiving Nigerians

Phrank Shaibu, the Special Assistant on Public Communication to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) for what he claims is the use of propaganda to mislead Nigerians.

In a statement released on Sunday, Shaibu also highlighted what he considers to be ten falsehoods perpetuated by the APC-led federal government.

Shaibu alleged that the President Bola Tinubu-led administration prioritizes “telling lies rather than rescuing citizens from the bottomless pit of bad governance they had been pushed into in the last eight years plus 117 days of the APC.”

He further criticized the President for appointing more media aides than economic and security advisers.

He urged Nigerians not to be swayed by the apology of the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, and called on the Nigerian media to consistently fact-check government claims to maintain their credibility.

Shaibu cited several instances of what he believes to be falsehoods, including the claim that petrol subsidies have been removed, the assertion that the United Arab Emirates lifted the visa ban on Nigerians, and the alleged meeting request between President Joe Biden and Bola Tinubu.

He also mentioned the Nigerian Air Force’s reported strike on terrorists in Niger State, which was later alleged to have resulted in the death of innocent civilians.

Shaibu criticized the Central Bank of Nigeria’s announcement of injecting $10 billion into the foreign exchange market, which he claims has not occurred.

He highlighted issues with the Student Loan Act, which he said led to tuition fee increases in government schools despite assurances to the contrary.

Shaibu’s statements underscore growing concerns about misinformation and political discourse in Nigeria, where public figures and political parties are frequently accused of spreading false information to gain a strategic advantage.
