Nigeria sets target to reach 20,000 megawatts of electricity by 2026

During a visit to the National Control Centre of the Transmission Company of Nigeria in Osogbo, Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, outlined the Federal Government’s goals to significantly increase electricity generation in Nigeria.

Adelabu expressed the government’s aspiration to generate 20,000 megawatts of electricity by 2026 and an impressive 60,000MW by 2060.

He emphasized that achieving these targets is feasible, citing the experiences of other nations that have achieved over 100,000 megawatts in a similar timeframe.’

Adelabu also highlighted plans for enhancing transmission and distribution capacities in the country. He mentioned that by 2026, Nigeria aims to achieve a capacity of 20,000 megawatts in electricity generation.

Additionally, he noted that the presidential power initiative would lead to the establishment of two new power substations in the coming months.

Addressing concerns about possible sabotage in the power sector, Adelabu warned that any employee found undermining government efforts would face consequences.

He revealed the formation of a panel to investigate the recent fire incident at the TCN power substation in Birnin Kebbi.
