Akeredolu not linked to deputy’s impeachment move – Adegboruwa

A senior lawyer, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, has voiced his skepticism about the involvement of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu in the ongoing move by the Ondo State House of Assembly to impeach Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

The Ondo State House of Assembly has made several allegations against Aiyedatiwa as part of the impeachment process.

Aiyedatiwa previously served as the acting governor until Governor Akeredolu’s return from a three-month medical leave in Germany on September 7, 2023.

Adegboruwa, who appeared as a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today, defended Governor Akeredolu, stating that he does not believe the governor is behind the impeachment move.

He described Governor Akeredolu as a man of courage, transparency, and accountability, suggesting that the governor has no intention of causing political strife in the state.

Adegboruwa emphasized the need for those in positions of authority to set aside personal interests in order to advance governance, stressing that political tensions should not hinder progress. He also urged Governor Akeredolu to play a fatherly role in resolving the ongoing political tension in the state.

Oshati Olatunji, the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, who also appeared on the program, maintained that the House is not engaged in a witch hunt against the Deputy Governor.

He stated that the allegations against Aiyedatiwa relate to misconduct and that the House is conducting an investigation to ascertain the veracity of the claims. Olatunji added that the Deputy Governor has been invited to defend himself within seven days.
