Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to former President Muhammadu Buhari, disclosed on Wednesday that Buhari expressed regret over some decisions made during his tenure and believed he could have handled certain matters better.
Speaking at an event titled ‘Media Dialogue with Femi Adesina’ organized by the Association of Veteran Journalists in Osun State, Adesina mentioned that such feelings of regret are normal for any human being.
Adesina shared that he had a comprehensive two-hour conversation with Buhari before his departure from office, during which he posed a wide range of questions.
He quoted Adesina as saying, “There is no living human being that will not regret certain things. It is one of the questions I asked the President. Before we left office, I sat with him for about two hours, and I asked him every question under the sun; there was no question I didn’t ask him. There were things he (Buhari) felt could have been done better.”
Adesina also defended Buhari’s controversial policy of redesigning the naira, asserting that it was implemented for the nation’s benefit.
He cited the period when kidnapping incidents were rare and pointed out that due to the scarcity of cash, some kidnappers released their victims without ransom demands.
Adesina also claimed that cleaner elections resulted from the policy, citing the example of nine incumbent governors who failed to secure Senate seats in their re-election bids.
He stated, “Nine serving governors couldn’t go to the Senate. They contested but lost. Have you ever seen a governor who will contest an election and will not win? But because there was no money to spread around, they couldn’t win.
