Boniface breaks Bundesliga record with 29 shot attempts

Victor Boniface, the Super Eagles forward, has etched his name in Bundesliga history with a remarkable achievement.

He now holds the record for the most shots attempted by a player in his first four Bundesliga games since detailed statistics collection commenced in the 2004/05 season.

The 22-year-old Nigerian has had a sensational start to his career in Germany, amassing four goals and two assists in his initial three appearances for Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

His stellar performances earned him recognition as the third player, following Paco Alcacer and Erling Haaland, to make six goal contributions in his first three Bundesliga matches.

Boniface’s exceptional run led to his debut for the Nigerian national team during the last international break.

He made his maiden appearance, replacing Taiwo Awoniyi in the 64th minute, and contributed an assist to Samuel Chukwueze’s goal in Nigeria’s resounding 6-0 victory over Sao Tome and Principe in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

After his international duty, Boniface returned to Germany and played a crucial role in securing a 2-2 draw for Leverkusen against Bayern Munich in a high-stakes match.

Although he didn’t find the net or provide an assist, he posed a consistent threat to Bayern’s defense with numerous on-target and off-target shots.

This performance increased his total shots attempted in the new Bundesliga season to an astonishing 29.

As a result, Boniface has become the first player to register 29 shot attempts in his first four Bundesliga games since detailed data collection began 19 years ago.

The achievement highlights his potency and ambition on the field.

Boniface is now setting his sights on returning to his scoring form as Bayer Leverkusen prepares to host the Swedish side Hacken in a Europa League clash on Thursday.
