Asake reveals the inspiration behind his stage name

In a recent interview with Pause Magazine’s Autium 2023 edition, popular singer Ahmed Ololade, professionally known as Asake, shed light on the origin of his stage name.

He revealed that his stage name, Asake, is actually derived from his mother’s name.

Asake explained that during his time in a cultural group, people used to refer to him as ‘omo Asake,’ which translates to ‘child of Asake’ in Yoruba.

Over time, the ‘omo’ part was dropped, and he became known simply as ‘Asake.’ He found the name cool and decided to adopt it as his stage name.

The singer expressed his fondness for the name and emphasized that he chose it because he found it appealing.

Asake affirmed his commitment to singing in Yoruba, emphasizing the importance of his cultural identity in his music career.
