Amusan celebrates historic diamond league victory in Eugene

Eugene, Oregon – Tobi Amusan, the world women’s 100m hurdles record holder, has etched her name into the annals of track and field history once again.

She secured her third consecutive Wanda Diamond League title in remarkable fashion on Sunday night at the iconic Eugene track in Oregon.

The 26-year-old Nigerian athlete faced a formidable lineup, including Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, Kendra Harrison, Danielle Williams, Nia Ali, Tia Jones, and Megan Tapper.

Undeterred by the competition, Amusan delivered a stellar performance in the 100m hurdles event, setting a season-best time of 12.33 seconds.

Camacho-Quinn from Puerto Rico gave a valiant effort, finishing second with a time of 12.38 seconds, while USA’s Harrison secured third place in 12.44 seconds.

Amusan’s victory marked an extraordinary achievement, as she became only the second woman in Diamond League history to clinch three consecutive 100m hurdles titles.

What makes this triumph even more special is that it unfolded on the very track in Oregon where she had won the World Championship the previous year and set the current world record of 12.12 seconds.

After the race, an elated Amusan commented, “I came out here and said it’s my race to lose, and I will give my all. I said it’s 200 or nothing because, 100 per cent, I am not winning today (Sunday). So, I came out here, and I told God to give me the strength.

I said this (racing in Eugene) is God’s track. I came here, I’m like ‘This is my track; I’m going to dominate,’ and God did just that.”

Amusan expressed profound gratitude to God and dedicated her victory to her coach, family, fans, and all those who supported her throughout a challenging year.

She acknowledged the rough patches but expressed deep gratitude for the season’s success.
