Vice President Kashim Shettima has revealed that Nigeria needs a staggering N21 trillion to effectively address its housing deficit, despite the combined efforts of all levels of government.
Shettima made this disclosure during the groundbreaking ceremony for a 500-unit housing estate initiated by the Sokoto State government.
While commending Governor Ahmed Aliyu for his dedication to addressing the housing needs of Sokoto State residents, Shettima emphasized that Nigeria’s housing deficit remains a substantial challenge.
He stated, “Nigeria has a deficit of 28 million houses, and we will need N21 trillion to meet our housing needs.
The steps taken by the Governor are highly commendable and should serve as a model for other state governments.”

Governor Aliyu explained that the housing estate would be allocated to civil servants and sold to them once completed, following the owner-occupier model.
He noted that the project had been initiated by former Governor Aliyu Wamakko but was left unfinished by the previous administration.
The current administration is determined to complete it for the benefit of public servants and the general public.
The event, marking the first 100 days of the administration, was attended by dignitaries including Senator Aliyu Wamakko and Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari.
