11 killed in recent Plateau attack by gunmen

Tragedy struck in the Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State as gunmen suspected to be killer herdsmen attacked the Kulben community in Kunbum District, leaving 11 people dead, houses razed, and several others injured.

The attack occurred around 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 10, 2023, catching the unsuspecting inhabitants off guard as they prepared to retire for the night.

Witnesses revealed that the attackers, numbering in the hundreds, indiscriminately fired upon fleeing residents, resulting in multiple casualties.

The horrifying ordeal persisted for over an hour, during which the marauders not only claimed lives but also laid waste to farmlands, set numerous homes ablaze, and inflicted injuries, with children and women being the most affected.

A source familiar with the incident informed the Nigerian Tribune, stating, “Armed Fulani Militia attacked Kulben Community in Kombun District of Mangu Local Government.

The incident, which occurred at about 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, left 11 people killed, others injured, and property destroyed.”

The victims were accorded a mass burial at approximately 12:30 p.m. the following day, while those requiring medical attention were rushed to Mangu General Hospital for treatment.

Dr. Elisha, the Chairman of the Mwaghavul Development Association in Kombun District, also verified the attack, confirming, “From the information I got, 10 people were killed during the invasion. I’m on my way to the village.”
