Man stabs friend to death in Lagos over jollof rice

In Lagos State, the police have apprehended an individual identified as Akinola Adeleye, accused of fatally stabbing his friend, known simply as John, during an argument regarding the payment for a meal consumed by Akinola on Idiagbon Street in the Ifako-Ijaiye area.

The victim, who had been staying with the suspect, accompanied Akinola to a canteen to have a meal.

An altercation emerged concerning who should settle the bill for Akinola’s food, ultimately escalating into a physical confrontation that resulted in the suspect allegedly using a knife to fatally wound John.

According to a resident named Ugochukwu, Akinola consumed a meal at a local restaurant and instead of paying immediately, he requested that the cost be added to his friend’s account, even though his friend was not present at the time.

When John visited the eatery and was informed that he was responsible for his friend’s debt, he became both surprised and angry.

After finishing his meal, he returned home to confront Akinola about the unanticipated debt, which led to a heated argument.

As the argument escalated into a fight, Akinola, in a fit of rage, demanded that John vacate his house immediately.

In the midst of the commotion, John tragically passed away, with onlookers noting that he defecated on himself before his death.

Akinola attempted to flee but was apprehended by local residents before he could escape. Subsequently, the suspect was handed over to the police, who transported the victim’s body to a junction in the area.

A spokesperson for the state police command has confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect is currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigations Department and will face legal charges.

The police initially declined to enter the area due to concerns about its volatile nature and instead requested that the body and suspect be brought to a safer location for processing.
