Nigerian musician, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, emphasized the unity of musicians under the afrobeats umbrella for award shows, irrespective of the genres they explore.

He made this declaration while accepting the Best Male Artiste of the Year award at the 2023 Headies Awards in Atlanta, USA.

Rema underscored the significance of supporting vital institutions within the music industry, including media houses and award organizers.

He expressed his commitment to these institutions as they play a pivotal role in artists’ journeys towards major achievements.

In addressing the diverse genres that artists may embrace, Rema acknowledged the presence of afro-inspired subgenres such as “afrorave” and others.
