NLC imposes warning strike in Ondo amid accusations against head of service

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) leadership in Ondo State vigorously enforced the nationwide two-day warning strike, which was declared by the NLC’s national body.

Despite warnings from the Head of Service, Kayode Ogundele, regarding potential repercussions for civil servants who didn’t report to work, some workers in various public offices across the state initially resumed work.

In response to this defiance, the NLC in Ondo State, under the leadership of Victor Amoko, mobilized to ensure maximum compliance with the warning strike.

Amoko expressed disappointment with the Head of Service’s actions, accusing Kayode Ogundele of violating the union’s directives.

Amoko emphasized that the strike was a response to the hardships caused by the removal of the oil subsidy and the lack of measures to mitigate its impact on the people and workers.

He noted that despite some confusion and instances where the Head of Service asked workers to return to work under threat of salary deductions, NLC members across the state largely complied with the strike directive.

He clarified that their focus was on the national issue and not solely on the government of Ondo State.
