Preserve democracy and shun violence – Shehu Sani urges Nigerians

Shehu Sani, Nigerian civil rights activist and former Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, has issued a stern warning against violence in the face of the planned strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) scheduled for Tuesday.

Sani stressed that all issues can be resolved through democratic means, emphasizing that resorting to violence should not be the way to press for demands.

He urged Nigerians to uphold the modest gains achieved through democratic processes.

In a statement released in Abuja, the former lawmaker acknowledged the importance of protests and strikes in a democratic society but firmly rejected violence as a solution.

Earlier, the Department of State Services (DSS) had claimed to have uncovered a plot by certain politicians to incite violence in the country under the guise of economic issues.

The DSS asserted that these individuals were attempting to orchestrate violent protests across the nation, involving students, ethnic associations, and disgruntled groups.

The DSS spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, stated that the Service had identified the ringleaders of this plot and was closely monitoring them to prevent any actions that could destabilize the country.
