Plateau police arrests woman who fled with neighbor’s 10 month old baby

The Plateau State Police Command has apprehended a woman identified as Patience Solomon, who had abducted her neighbor’s ten-month-old baby in Jos and fled to the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

The incident, which had occurred in the Angwan Rukuba area of Jos on Friday, July 21, 2023, had garnered significant attention.

CP Julius Alawari, the State Commissioner of Police, paraded the woman along with 25 other suspects arrested for various crimes in the state on Monday, September 4, 2023.

Patience Solomon, who is a mother of two, explained that she had voluntarily returned to Jos with the baby upon realizing that her actions, while driven by her love for the child, were wrong.

She stated, “I had no bad intention when I left with the baby. The mother of the baby is my friend, and I love the baby so much.

I did not tell the mother because I knew she would not agree, so I had to go with the baby.”

Patience Solomon had maintained contact with the baby’s mother during her time in Lagos, frequently making calls, sending messages, and even conducting video calls to show the child’s well-being.

However, due to social media reports claiming she had stolen the baby, she decided to approach the police in Lagos, who advised her on the necessary steps to take.

Upon her return to Jos, local authorities picked her up at the park, but she stressed that she had returned voluntarily and was not arrested.

The baby’s mother, who had been reunited with her child at the State Police headquarters, expressed relief and happiness.

She explained that she and Patience Solomon lived in the same compound and worked at the same shop, and while Patience had been caring for the baby, she had not granted permission for her to take the child. The mother was grateful to have her baby back safely.
