Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has taken a commendable step in alleviating the burden of the federal government’s fuel subsidy removal by approving a free transport service for passengers traveling on all Edo City Transport Ltd routes.
Commencing on Monday, September 11, 2023, this service will be available daily from 6.30 am to 7 pm.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Edo State Governor, Andrew Okungbowa, emphasized that this initiative aims to substantially ease the mobility challenges faced by citizens and enhance their overall welfare during these challenging times prompted by the federal government’s subsidy removal policy.

According to the statement released, “His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki, has directed the State-owned transport company, Edo City Transport Ltd (ECTS), to commence free bus services to all passengers on all their routes with effect from 11th September 2023.”
The scope of this benevolent gesture extends across the Benin metropolis and from Benin-City to major cities in the three senatorial districts.
Governor Obaseki’s compassionate decision seeks to provide relief to the people of Edo State in light of the multifaceted challenges stemming from the fuel subsidy removal.
