The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a declaration of a two-day warning strike set to begin on Tuesday, September 5, 2023.
The announcement was made by NLC President, Joe Ajaero, during a press conference held at the Labour House in Abuja on Friday.
The primary reason behind this two-day warning strike is the NLC’s strong protest against the Federal Government’s perceived failure to address the challenges arising from the removal of fuel subsidy.
Ajaero expressed the NLC’s frustration with the government, accusing it of reneging on negotiated agreements and failing to implement resolutions reached in previous meetings.
The NLC had previously demonstrated its dissatisfaction with the current administration’s policies through a protest held on August 2.

The protests took place in various states across Nigeria, including Lagos, Abia, Plateau, Kaduna, Kano, Rivers, Zamfara, Katsina, Cross River, Ebonyi, Enugu, Kwara, Ogun, Imo, Ondo, and Edo.
These protests followed a seven-day ultimatum issued to the Federal Government, demanding the immediate reversal of policies perceived as detrimental to the welfare of the people, including the recent hike in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), increased public school fees, and the release of eight months’ withheld salaries of university lecturers and workers.
The NLC’s demands also encompass an upward revision of the minimum wage from N30,000 to N200,000, with the union contending that the peace of mind of Nigerians has been disrupted since President Tinubu announced the removal of fuel subsidy during his inauguration speech on May 29, 2023.
