Tragic tanker accident claims life of teenage girl in Niger state

Police authorities have verified the unfortunate demise of Priscilla Galadima, a 16-year-old girl from Barkin-Sale in Minna, Niger State.

The tragic incident occurred when she was attempting to cross the road near the Shiroro roundabout and was struck by a tanker.

The spokesperson for the state police command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, conveyed this distressing news to journalists on Thursday.

The sequence of events leading to the fatal accident unfolded on Wednesday around 10 am.

A Mercedes Benz vehicle, driven by a 35-year-old man named Daniel Joshua, was reportedly moving from Mandela road towards the Shiroro roundabout.

Allegedly driving recklessly, the Mercedes scratched a Toyota Yaris vehicle, and instead of stopping, continued on.

The Toyota vehicle, operated by Abubakar Yahaya, pursued the Mercedes in an attempt to halt it.

In the midst of this chase, tragedy struck. The Mercedes collided with Priscilla Galadima, propelling her into the path of an oncoming tanker trailer.

The tanker, bearing registration number JMT 576 YR and operated by Ibrahim Lawal, was unable to avoid running over her.

Galadima was subsequently rushed to the General Hospital Minna, where her death was confirmed.

Both drivers involved in the incident were apprehended and are under investigation at the Tudum Wada police division.

The lifeless body of Priscilla Galadima now rests at the morgue of the Minna General Hospital.

The incident serves as a tragic reminder of the potential consequences of reckless driving and the importance of road safety precautions.
