In what is seen as a response to recent coups in Niger and Gabon, both the Rwandan and Cameroonian governments have undertaken military reshuffles.
According to Rwanda’s News Times, the Federal Government has approved the retirement of 12 generals and several officers.
The retirements, announced on August 30 in a statement by the Rwanda Defence Force, include prominent figures like James Kabarebe and Charles Kayonga, who have previously held high-ranking positions within the Rwandan Defence Force.
The retirements also encompassed other senior officers and non-commissioned officers.

In a similar move, President Paul Biya of Cameroon has initiated a military reshuffle, as indicated by a statement circulated on X (formerly Twitter).
The statement, written in French, the official language of Cameroon, announced new appointments to the Controle Generale des Armees.
Among the newly appointed are Captain Ajeagah Njei Félix Colonel and Colonel Nguema Ondo Bertin Bourger, along with appointments in other key military positions.
These reshuffles appear to be prompted by the recent coups in Niger and Gabon, reflecting efforts by both countries to ensure the stability of their armed forces amidst regional political developments.
