The Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government Area in Ogun State, Wale Adedayo, has been suspended by a group of councilors for a duration of three months.
The suspension arises from allegations of maladministration and financial mismanagement against him.
Responding to the situation, Adedayo acknowledged the possibility of the suspension, mentioning that the local government secretariat was stormed by both police officers and thugs on the morning of the announcement.
This development follows the intrusion of the local government’s premises by over a hundred mobile policemen, reportedly in connection to rumors of the state governor’s intention to impeach Adedayo.
The chairman had recently accused the governor of withholding federal government allocations allocated to local government areas in the state.

Seven councilors, representing various wards, disclosed that there were several allegations demanding investigation.
A letter outlining 15 allegations against Adedayo was presented, including financial improprieties and unauthorized expenditures.
As a result of these allegations, the councilors resolved that Adedayo should appear before the council at its forthcoming session on September 14, 2023.
Moreover, they mandated that Adedayo step aside during the investigations, suspending him for three months.
In the meantime, the Vice Chairman will act as Chairman in accordance with the Nigerian Constitution.
The allegations against Adedayo encompass matters like misappropriation of funds, incomplete projects, unauthorized taxation, and withholding security votes.
Adedayo had previously reported the Ogun State Governor to anti-graft agencies, alleging mismanagement of local government funds.
