Dr. Yunusa Sunusi, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital, has been removed from his position merely three weeks after the hospital’s reopening.
The decision, announced by Samira Sulaiman, a spokesperson for the Hospital Management Board (HMB), was attributed to Sunusi’s inability to effectively execute the government’s initiatives for free consultations, admissions, and treatments.
The HMB conducted an unplanned inspection of the hospitals under its supervision and found Sunusi’s performance unsatisfactory. Consequently, he was swiftly dismissed.

According to Sulaiman, the decision followed consultations with the Hon. Commissioner of Health, Dr. Abubakar Yusuf Labaran, and the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda.
Despite repeated efforts by the Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, to address concerns and seek improvements, the hospital remained unchanged.
Dr. Nagoda expressed his disappointment with Sunusi’s failure to effectively manage human resources and maintain appropriate hospital administration, despite being a consultant in paediatrics.
Sunusi was found to be in violation of the government’s policy on free treatment, as patients were being charged for drugs and basic tests.
