In the aftermath of President Ali Bongo’s removal from power, the junta in Gabon has declared its dedication to upholding all commitments domestically and internationally.
The Committee for the Transition and Restoration of Institutions (CTRI), newly established in Gabon, has conveyed this message to reassure donors, development partners, and creditors.
Colonel Ulrich Manfoumbi Manfoumbi, the spokesperson for CTRI, assured the public that transitional institutions would be gradually introduced, as the junta aims to ensure stability.
The architect of the Bongo dynasty’s overthrow, General Brice Oligui Nguema, is set to be inaugurated as the transitional president on Monday.

The ceremony is scheduled to take place at the constitutional court. The coup occurred shortly after the election commission announced the presidential election results, granting Bongo 64 percent of the vote.
In response to the coup, Gabon’s primary opposition alliance, Alternance 2023, called on the military to resume the electoral process and complete the vote count.
The alliance, led by Albert Ondo Ossa, had initially accused Bongo of “fraud” and urged a peaceful transfer of power.
The junta’s declaration coincided with a meeting of the African Union’s Peace and Security Council, which convened to discuss the situation in Gabon.
The session was chaired by Bankole Adeoye of Nigeria and Willy Nyamitwe of Burundi.
