Nigerian army refutes alleged land seizure attempt in Osun community

The Nigerian Army has rejected claims of attempting to take over land in Osun State for a proposed community intervention project.

Brig. Gen Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, issued a statement titled “Re: Complaints of Orolu Community, of Orolu LGA over Alleged Proposed Community Intervention Project by the Nigerian Army” on Tuesday night.

The statement addressed allegations made by Chief Babatunde Oyetunji, Eesa of Ifon, accusing the Nigerian Army of forcibly acquiring land for a project in Orolu Community.

The Army categorically refuted these claims, labeling them as false, malicious, and an attempt to tarnish the reputation of the Chief of Army Staff and the institution as a whole.

The Army clarified that its approach to community intervention is based on Civil-Military Cooperation activities.

These initiatives, such as constructing hospitals, boreholes, and electrification, are executed after needs assessment and consultation with community leaders.

The proposed medical center in Osun state, conceptualized by a retired senior officer, has not yet been formally submitted for approval.
